Hi everyone

Hello everyone! Marcie and I have been discussing starting some shifting of the collection while we wait for the budget monies to come through for some renovation to our department. We were thinking of moving the biographies to the hallway between YS and Media, shift fiction to bio, move videos to YA wall in media room and shift picture books up behind fiction so all of YA would be in the back of the room by Marcie's desk. It will be a lot of work so if anyone knows of any hardworking and competent volunteers or any ideas to make this job as simple as possible let me know.

Thanks,
Kenna

Back in 2001 when I worked at the Spring Valley Library, we did a huge shifting project with all the depts in our entire library. We were closed to the public for 1+ months for rennovating and shifting of materials.

Shelvers and managers alike worked side-by-side, morning and night to get things where they needed to be in time for re-opening day.

Looking back, it took a lot of muscles & time to shift things around, but it was so worth it.

This is a great idea!
However, I don't know how comfortable I feel having a volunteer shifting books around. I just know it's very easy to get confused and I wouldn't want this to be more work than it already is. Unless anyone has a volunteer that they trust will do a great job. Otherwise, I think we'll have to work together to complete this project. What does everyone else think?

This will be a lot of work but it should be worth it. I'm getting excited about all the changes we'll be making!
